The NFL Play 60 Partners with LULAC to Host Health Festival

Metairie, New Orleans - Saturday, January 26 from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., the National Football League PLAY 60 (NFL PLAY 60) in partnership with the League of United Latin American Citizens (LULAC) Latinos Living Healthy will host a health fiesta at the St. Martin Episcopal School located at 225 Green Acres Rd., in Metairie, Louisiana. This is the third time NFL PLAY 60 has collaborated with LULAC to bring vital resources to the Hispanic community. NFL PLAY 60 and LULAC Latinos Living Healthy will offer fitness-focused activities and information regarding the health resources that are available in nearby areas.
The NFL PLAY 60 campaign provides entertainment to local youths and their families by having renowned NFL coaches and players participate in physical activity drills in order to introduce kids to the game of football in a non-intimidating way and encourage their participation in America’s favorite sport. In addition NFL PLAY 60 will raffle 200 NFL footballs, 400 NFL bookmarks, six NFL PLAY 60 prize packs, two signed NFL PLAY 60 footballs, and two certificates for the 2013 regular season Saints game.
“We appreciate our partnership with NFL PLAY 60 because it brings physical activity and vital information regarding healthy living to our local communities,” said LULAC National President Margaret Moran. “We encourage our community to come out and participate in the many fun activities designed to promote healthy living.”
As part of the program, local organizations such as Latino Farmers Co-op, Puentes New Orleans, 504 Health Net, Elmwood Fitness Center, Kids First Pediatrics, PACE New Orleans, Amerigroup Louisiana, NFL YET Boys and Girls Club, New Orleans Health Department, Healthy Start New Orleans, and Walmart will be on hand to provide the following:
- Healthy cocking demonstrations led by local chefs from the LSU AgCenter;
- The National Dairy Council (DMI) and Fuel Up to Play 60 have been invited to present healthy foods;
- Free health screenings;
- Elmwood Fitness Center will be present with a mobile activities van; and a
- Jump rope competition to celebrate 84 years of LULAC service to the Latino community.
