The U.S. Department of Education today launched U.S.A. Learns, a free Web site to help immigrants learn English. The Web site, which is located at www.USALearns.org, provides approximately 11 million adults who have low levels of English proficiency with easily accessible and free English language training.

The League of United Latin American Citizens demands an immediate recall and denunciation of one of the most offensive political advertisements in this already divisive election season. The advertisement, paid for by the Republican State Leadership Committee of Virginia, uses a Spanish-speaking Chihuahua to dehumanize Ohio’s Latino community and warns English-speaking voters that they may have to learn Spanish if Democrat Connie Pillich beats Republican Virgil Lovitt in the race for Ohio’s 28th district.

LULAC National Educational Service Centers receives Wagner-Peyser grant.

LULAC National Educational Service Centers (LNESC) will be making an announcement Saturday at the Hyatt Regency Hill Country leading to the start of the LULAC National Women’s Conference on Friday that it has been awarded a $490,000 Wagner-Peyser grant by Governor Rick Perry's office. The grants are given annually to various organizations to provide workforce training programs and are administered by the Texas Workforce Commission. This grant will support 5 program sites in Texas: Corpus Christi, Dallas, El Paso, Houston and San Antonio.
