Women's Empowerment Initiative
LULAC is proud to announce the launch of the Women’s Empowerment Initiative, a brand new initiative that seeks to train, motivate, and empower women to become leaders in all aspects of their lives. Through programming, LULAC along with its partners and councils provide women across the country with tools and resources to help them succeed. The campaign and programs listed below are all part of the WE Initiative.
The Mujeres Poderosas campaign highlights Latinas across the country who are trailblazers in their field. The women featured will share their inspirational journey to achieving what they have today. From local entrepreneurs to leading corporate executives, we will share their stories through blogs, FB live panels, videos, and more. Through this campaign, LULAC hopes to empower Latinas to take the steps necessary to achieve their goals and become Mujeres Poderosas. If you would to nominate a Mujer Poderosa please click here.
The Join the Solution campaign works to increase awareness of human trafficking – particularly women and girls from Mexico, Latin America, and U.S. Latino communities. Together with Polaris, we hope to empower women facing this situation to reach out for help and encourage others to learn the signs of human trafficking situations and report it. The National Human Trafficking Hotline provides direct personal assistance and is available 24/7. To call for support or to report a suspected case, dial 1-888-373-7888.
The Latina Entrepreneur Academy is designed to train, motivate, and inspire women, especially those of Hispanic descent, to build their own businesses or enhance their existing ones. The academy will provide a series of informational sessions on various topics that will better prepare women entering the world of entrepreneurship. Through this initiative, we hope to nurture this entrepreneurial spirit and provide support to driven Latinas who seek to launch and/or expand business endeavors. With the support of The Coca-Cola Foundation, LULAC looks to grow the Latina Entrepreneur Academy and continue to provide opportunities for entrepreneurs.
The Televisa Foundation (TF) & the League of United Latin American Citizens (LULAC) with the support of Intel have collaborated to expand the TECHNOLOchicas LiFT program in the state of Arizona. Through the LiFT program, middle school girls ages 11-14 are equipped with the technological skills they need to succeed in the technology-focused workforce of today and tomorrow. Empowering girls with a STEM education is key to closing the education and economic gaps that are all too prevalent in underserved communities. By the end of 2017, TF and LULAC will have awarded 30 sites across the United States.
